Double1seven has been feature on robot skream a few times and there’s a good reason for it, he knows his stuff. His main genres of choice and drum and bass and dubstep, he’s just recently made these two gems, Dodecahedron and Before You Leave. Both tracks have that delicious old-school taste and have been injected with some Double1seven mastery for that gooey centre. These tracks are worth the download for sure.

Part of the strong disco wave starting to sweep the coasts of Australia comes Universe. The sound has really started to take off in recent years and  with a wealth of artists and producers sprouting up as of late, Universe certainly finds his place and gives it his own unique, universal sound.

All his tracks are super smooth with a bit of bass and a disciplined touch with the filter. From some subtle drops in “To be in love” remix, the naked bassline in his “Kilometer” remix and the funky rolling remix of “Sometimes” Universe has certainly got a distinctive touch which I hope to hear a lot more of.  As well as the three tracks you can listen to below his facebook and soundcloud both provide some enjoyable mixes and info

So, I finally have internet back :D I went over my quota because of downloading too much porn music movies doing uni work, but I’m back today and I’m bringing LAZRtag electro goodness. This fearsome duo love punchy remixes and have certainly pulled through with a whole batch of remixes uploaded on their Soundcloud. I’m chucking up one of my favourite remixes, their remix of Crystal Castles vs Health’s Crimewave. I’m a sucker to the synth in Crimewave, the old school electronic feel combined with LAZRtag’s punch kick ideology is quite something.

Things for perth just keep getting better, with thanks to the boys from Metric Promotions and Dorcia. Lately I have started working with the Metric boys and as a result i will be playing along side with the likes of Skrillex, Time Travel Agent, Dead Money and Salyor. I will be keeping it faithful, so i am using ROBOTSKREAM as my name. Skrillex will be traveling all the way from LA for this one, so it will definitely be a night to remember. Skrillex is becoming a huge influence in the world of hard electro, a genre that is constantly growing in strength. So if you are looking for a fix of strobe lights, mosh pits and intimate gis, or just want another Trashbags concert :) then this is where you need to go. Tickets are on sale now and trust me they will go fast. Get then here from moshtix and check it out on Facebook. Here are a few of his latest to wet your appetite.

Summer & Space. Thats what I think about when I hear these two remixes by Sydney outfit Frames, I’m not sure what it is about certain bands but to me these are so polished and structurally sound that I can really see these guys making waves in the future.

Based around a long stabbing synth and glitchy lyrcis “Beyond the Satellites” is a great remix with a slow and rolling buildup bringing loads of atmosphere to the table. Some cool drum sounds and littered with some distant delayed claps take this track to the next level in my humble opinion.

Not as subtle as “Beyond the Satellites” and bringing alot more groove, Frames “What You Know” remix certainly brings a different yet equally uplifting vibe. With a funky bassline and some playing on the filters this track is definitely at it’s best in its verses and buildups.  Both great tracks and great free and available 320kps downloads that will beef up any music library.

When I approached FuntCase for an interview, he told me to ask “whatever.” He gave me an inch so I took a mile and what a great sport he was. Here are the raw responses he sent to me…

How did the Djing/producing begin and what came first?

It was mainly due to my mum who’s been a Dj for years and years, who originally was djing happy hardcore in the helter skelter days!
I used to rock my long hair, baggy clothes and skateboard while listening to metal thinking it was the only thing for me in life, until i heard bandwagon blues by twisted individual and my head started spinning! So did the decks after that actually! I was tryin to find myself still so I was even dabbling in the mcing! *cringe*. but yeah long story short, djing first!

Lets be realistic here, how did you go at school?

Oh dear oh dear, again hairstyles weren’t my strong point, I had curtains! I was quite mad in school, didn’t really have any proper friends or fit in anywhere so I used to follow and hang with anyone. Thinking back I was quite an annoying prick actually…Deserved the few slaps i got!

What was your first ever gig? (including 10th Birthday parties and funerals haha)

I’m not sure actually, if you mean in music in general it was years back! I had to play a gig for my pointless music course at college which taught me sod all! Djing wise I’m not actually sure, it would have been in my dnb days, possibly for a local night called nightshift, where i supported digital.

Who are your biggest influences?

I don’t have many specific influences really, my favourite producer in the world is taxman, that guy pushes so many abilities into his production and just creates such a loud sound I wanted to create back in dnb, but he manages to make it utter next level! I’m inspired by anything and everything though.

Favourite tune released so far?

Ouch, hard question as my favourite switches all the time. I’d say it’s flip between cracks (flux pavilion remix), sweet shop by doctor p, circle k by trolley Snatcha, swagga by excision and datsik or indisco remix by bar 9…sick sick tunes. But recently my flavours have evolved a bit and I love listening to vertigo by the others, midnight by Subscape or anything by sukh knight!

How do you feel about sharing music?

It depends, this debate will go on forever really but there’s numerous sides to it. In my opinion, tracks should be bought and kept in their possession. Too many people look to find a clear clip of a track, loop it then put it online for people to download and play it out without permission…people have to understand that it’s a living that the artists are trying to make So they can carry on making tracks for people to enjoy. Leaked tracks are leaked, nothing can be done but i really don’t know why anyone has the audacity to play it out knowing they shouldn’t?

Favourite gig and why?

A few really, Belgium have been amazing everytime! I played Israel that was massive vibes but i suppose the crown has to go to the circus takeover in Manchester run by the just skank boys. That gig was next level, and so was the heat!!!

What DAW (<– abbreviated for ultracoolness) are you producing on?

Ooh you swanky bastard! Well I used to use Reason purely on its own, where I made tracks like takin the piss, so vexed, and wizard sleeve but i made dubsteppa in logic at southbound hangers studio! I use Nuendo these days, thought I’d kick my limited production software to the curb and up my game. I’m now in love with it!

Favourite sample used so far?

Mattress punch was pretty jokes, that was a sample from the classic YouTube clip ‘the greatest freak out ever’ where a kid spasms out and goes mad over his mum cancelling his world of Warcraft account, but his brother put his camera in the kids bedroom and recorded the whole thing, it’s genius viewing!

Any special rituals or superstitions pre-gigs?

Fuck no! I stick on my mask and go nuts.

If you could thank 5 people for getting you to where you are today, who would they be?

My mum for her patience with me and not telling me to turn the music off when i make it! My mates for keeping me sane, the circus camp for being such a huge platform for me, anyone who’s an influence to me, and the ‘bigger lot’ who have given me advise on production, the music scene and anything else i sucked at!

Large sounds! Does this usually indicate sexual frustration in a producer and what’s your girl of choice?

I’m quite picky despite the state of me, I like girls with a sense of humour, who know how to be silly, can put up with me and just generally be safe…gold diggers and anyone wishing to date ‘funtcase’ will get a swift dropkick to the wizard sleeve…

McDonalds, KFC or Burger King and why?

Trolley Snatcha would know this answer instantly before even seeing my reply but Mcdonalds ofcourse!!!! It tastes like physical form aids but it tastes great at the same time…good times!

How many hours has facebook taken of your life?

Too much of it…I leave my facebook on when producing which leaves me with hundreds of people trying to send me links or asking me for tips and I find it hard to keep up. If anyone reading this who’s tried to get hold of me but had no reply i do apologise and hopefully be able to find time for you soon!

Tell us one thing about yourself that know one else knows/people would like to know?

I was going out to town once and got refused entry to a club as i tried to get in so i had to go home and get my I.d…I thought I’d take a piss first so I ran into the bushes and pissed, pushed out a fart which actually turned out to be rusty tap water and shat myself… I’d rather tell you that than some boring fact about myself :)

Any advice for up and coming DJ’s/Producers that you wouldn’t get online?

Don’t expect shit to just happen for you, all or most of the time it won’t, make sure you work hard and put 150% into every track you make and always try to better yourself if you can…hard work = rewards. I’ve spent 7 years doing what I do so if you’ve spent a year at it and still nowhere it’s not the end of the world, take criticism on the chin and get on with it!

What does the future hold?

Who knows man, I’m on circus which is breaking musical boundaries in dubstep at the moment so it’ll be interesting to see how it pans out. Currently making the deeper and darker side to dubstep with an alias which I’m sure people have noticed with the thread that describes me as being loefah! We’ll see!

Plz write your own question……………..and answer it :-D ……….

How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

Brilliant and innovative question with which is a detailed debate about the average size of man and his physical abilities!

Last and most important question….Have you seen my baseball?

I inserted in in your mummas ass, followed by her head…now she can hear her lower intestines as it produces SHIT! (movie quote)

Safe man! Hope you like….

…and I do, very much so! What a great guy.

It seems putting the tunes to his name has been a problem for me or we could just say he slipped through the net but this guy is one seriously great producer, he is none other than Top Cat. He’s seemed to have brought a ship of his Jamaican mates and dropped them at a drum and bass gig, they’ve then proceeded to steal microphones and throw down some serious sounds. His album Champion Deejay, released in 2009, is killer. Utilising some trigger finger samples and tempo changes, you’d expect to be whipped by dreadlocks and have machine gun fire all around you. Ruffest Gun Ark which has been promptly remixed by Chase and Status, along with the original, are dance floor annihilators. Someone bring this guy to Perth! True Junglist BRRRAAAPPP!
